Baltic index extends gains as rates for bigger vessels rise

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index increased for a 3rd straight session on Tuesday to strike a onemonth peak, as rates climbed up across bigger vessel segments.

* The total index, which factors in rates for capesize, supramax and panamax shipping vessels, was up 13 points, or 0.8%, at 1,585 points, its highest considering that Jan. 10.

* The capesize index also scaled a one-month high. It added 23 points, or 0.9%, at 2,476 points.
