OPEC again cuts 2024, 2025 oil demand growth forecasts

OPEC cut its projection for global oil need development in 2024 and lowered its forecast for next year on Tuesday, highlighting China, India and other areas, marking the manufacturer group's fourth consecutive downward revision.

The weaker outlook highlights the challenge facing OPEC+,. which makes up the Company of the Petroleum Exporting. Nations and allies such as Russia, which earlier this month. delayed a plan to start raising output in December against a. backdrop of falling prices.

In a month-to-month report on Tuesday, OPEC stated world oil demand. will rise by 1.82 million barrels per day in 2024, down from. development of 1.93 million bpd forecast last month.

Till August, OPEC had kept the outlook the same given that it. was first made in July 2023.

China represented the bulk of the 2024 downgrade. OPEC. trimmed its Chinese growth projection to 450,000 bpd from 580,000. bpd and stated diesel usage in September fell year on year for a. seventh successive month.

Diesel has been under pressure from a slowdown in. building in the middle of weak production activity, combined with the. ongoing release of LNG-fuelled trucks, OPEC stated with. recommendation to China.

Oil pared gains after the report was provided, with. Brent crude trading listed below $73 a barrel.

There is a large split between forecasters on the strength of. demand development in 2024, partially due to distinctions over demand. from China and the pace of the world's switch to cleaner fuels.

OPEC, which is still on top end of market price quotes. after the revision, also cut its 2025 worldwide demand development. estimate to 1.54 million bpd from 1.64 million bpd.
