Baltic index strikes over 1-month high up on tough vessel rates

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index extended gains for an eighth straight session to touch 11/2 month peak on Tuesday, buoyed by climbing up rates throughout all sections.

* The total index, which consider rates for capesize, panamax and supramax shipping vessels, was up 28 points, or 1.5%, at 1,899 points, its greatest considering that Jan. 8.
