Indian Oil will increase Brazilian crude purchases as Russian imports decrease, executive says

Indian Oil Corp, the nation's largest refining company, has committed to purchasing more Brazilian crude during the fiscal year that begins in April after reducing its?Russian?oil imports.

IOC intends to buy at least 24 millions barrels of Brazilian crude between April 2026 and March 2027. This is up from 18 million barrels the previous year. The executive said this to reporters on the sidelines of Indian Energy Week.

He said that the'refiner', who has just bought its first crude cargoes in Colombia and Ecuador, plans to purchase 50% of its 'crude through term contracts? in the next fiscal year. However, he requested anonymity because company policy.

India was the largest buyer of Russian seaborne crude oil after the February 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. However, Western sanctions forced Indian refiners into increasing their imports of other sources including the Middle East.

Indian refiners have been considering the import of Venezuelan crude oil, offered by Vitol or Trafigura as part of a U.S.-mandated?sale.

The IOC executive stated that traders are offering Venezuelan crude for a discount between $4 and $5 per barrel to Dubai quotes. This is not attractive as refiners want deeper discounts, such as $7 to $8.
