EUROPE GAS-Prices constant as technical support offsets moderate weather, constant supply

Dutch and British wholesale gas prices firmed somewhat on Tuesday around technical support, after hitting near sixweek lows the previous day on milder weather forecasts that must limit need and consistent gas flows.

The benchmark front-month contract at the Dutch TTF center was up 0.49 euro at 40.45 euros per megawatt hour ( MWh), or $12.43/ mmbtu, by 0944 GMT.

On Monday, it was up to 39.10 euro/MWh intraday, its most affordable level considering that Nov. 6.

In Britain the front-month contract firmed by 0.48 pence to 100.63 p/therm, while the day-ahead contract rose 0.95 pence to 98.00 p/therm.

Monday's drop was most likely overdone moving contracts into oversold area, with the marketplace now showing a small technical correction, a trader stated.

So in spite of moderate temperatures and high wind I see it more reactive to technical aspects today, the trader included.

Earnings taking and new long positions opening at the brand-new lower price levels must provide assistance, analysts at Engie EnergyScan said in their early morning note.
