Olympics-Surfing-Competition in Tahiti likely to resume on Thursday after storm delays

Competitors was cancelled at the Olympic surfing location of Teahupo'o in Tahiti on Wednesday, with conditions still super challenging after a storm swept though the area, requiring the occasion to go on hold.

Organisers stated competitors was likely to resume at 7 a.m. (1700 GMT) on Thursday, starting with ladies's round 3 and planning to move into the quarter-finals for men and women.

Tahiti's Teahupo'o provided some of the very best conditions ever seen for a competitors for the males's round 3 on Monday, before strong winds ripped through the lineup and continued into Tuesday.

Wednesday brought home the obstacles of forecasting waves and weather condition on a separated island in the South Pacific.

With time going out to complete competitors, organisers initially stated they would send out the ladies's round 3 out into a maelstrom of 15-foot stormy browse at one of the world's most harmful waves.

They quickly altered their minds, however, and cancelled for the day, leaving a nail-biting wait to finish up the event and decide the medals.

Running for half a day on Wednesday would have permitted organisers to complete competitors and crown medallists on Thursday, which looks to have the best conditions left in the waiting period that ends on Monday.

One-and-a-half days of competitors stay now, meaning a finish is more likely at the weekend - but far from certain.

Kevin Wallis, head of forecasting at Surfline.com, which works with the Olympic surf organisers, said a repeat of Monday's sensational conditions was not likely.

In a perfect world, you get four truly great days of browse like we had on Monday early morning, but that doesn't always take place, Wallis told Reuters during the break in competition on Tuesday.

We've been extremely fortunate up until now. We've had 2 and a half days of anywhere from excellent to amazingly all-time good when it comes to Monday morning.

So I would simply look whether we get anything more like that the remainder of the waiting duration - most likely not - however we've got a day-and-a-half to complete. We've got to attempt and discover the very best day-and-a-half left in the waiting duration.

When browsing resumes, women's round three action will see Australian world champion Tyler Wright up versus Israel's Anat Lelior before local preferred Vahine Fierro handles countrywoman Johanne Defay in heat two.

Friendly fire is a style for the guys's quarter-finals too, with France's Kauli Vaast and Joan Duru conference, along with Brazil's Joao Chianca and Gabriel Medina, while Ethan Ewing and Jack Robinson of Australia will be fighting for a semi-final berth.
