World Steel Association reduces 2024 global steel need forecast

Worldwide steel need is anticipated to decline in 2024 for the third year running as production and economic growth remain weak, the World Steel Association (WorldSteel) said on Monday as it devalued its outlook.

In April, the group forecast global steel demand would rise by 1.7% in 2024, but its latest projection is a drop of 0.9% to 1.75 billion metric tons.

2024 has been a difficult year for global steel need as the worldwide production sector continued to grapple with persistent headwinds, stated Martin Theuringer, managing director of the German Steel Association.
