Saudi Arabian crude exports drop to a three-month low in December

Data from the Joint Organizations Data Initiative on Thursday showed that crude oil exports by the world's biggest oil exporter dropped to 6,988 million barrels a day. This is down from 7.378 million barrels a day in November and the lowest since September.

Saudi Arabian crude production reached its highest level since April 2023 in December. In November, the output was 10.050 millions bpd.

The crude oil used in Saudi Arabia was either refined into products or exported. This is despite a moderately higher production of crude.

Riyadh, along with other members of Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), provides monthly export figures to the Joint Organizations Data Initiative. This initiative is coordinated by international energy organisations including OPEC.

The JODI data revealed that the refinery crude throughput rose to 2.738 millions bpd during December, almost 7% more than November's 2.560million bpd. Direct crude burning, however, decreased by 107,000 to?210,000 per day.

Saudi Arabia's fall in exports is a sign of a possible shift in OPEC+ policy.

In an earlier report, citing three OPEC+ sources,? Three OPEC+ sources were cited in a report that OPEC+ is leaning 'towards a resumption 'of oil production increases since April.

OPEC forecasted that the world's oil demand for the OPEC+ will?drop by 400,000 barges per day in the second quarter, and published figures indicating a slight surplus during that period.

The International Energy Agency warned earlier this month that the world's?oil consumption will grow more slowly than expected in this year. It also said that despite supply interruptions that occurred in January, there is still a large surplus on the global oil market.
