ADNOC, Borouge, Borealis to construct China polyolefins complex with Wanhua Chemical

Abu Dhabi petrochemicals firm Borouge said on Tuesday it prepared to develop a. polyolefins complex in China with Wanhua Chemical. through a consortium with ADNOC and Borealis, as it seeks to. increase development in its core Asia market.

A consortium of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC),. Borouge and Borealis signed a job collaboration contract. with Wanhua and its subsidiary Wanrong New Products (Fujian) to. develop the complex.

Borealis is a joint venture owned 75% by Austria's OMV and. 25% by ADNOC. Borouge is a joint endeavor between ADNOC and. Borealis in which they hold 54% and 36%, respectively.

The proposed project in Fuzhou, Fujian province, would. produce 1.6 million metric lots per annum (mtpa) of speciality. polyolefins, Borouge stated in a stock exchange filing.

The consortium prepares to set up a joint venture with Wanrong. New Products with ownership split similarly in between Chinese and. foreign holdings, Borouge stated.

ADNOC and OMV have actually been in talks for over a year about a. merger of Borouge and Borealis, which would create a chemicals. group with over $20 billion in annual sales.

The deal includes contracts to develop 9 Large Ethane. Carriers (VLECs) for about $1.4 billion and two Huge. Ammonia Carriers (VLACs) for $250 million each, with a choice. for 2 more VLACs at the same price.
