The benchmark front-month agreement at the Dutch TTF hub was down 1.73 euros at 31.55 euros per megawatt hour ( MWh) by 1344 GMT.

It had opened at 33.87 euros/MWh, its highest level because Jan. 5, following strong gains on Tuesday.

Prices at 33 euros/MWh do not make much sense to me basically. Thirty three is pricing risk premium, a trader said.

The absence of a reaction from Israel up until now on Iran's. military attack at the weekend was curbing the threats to LNG. supply disruptions, another trader added.

Experts had highlighted the risk of heightened stress to. obstructing off the crucial Strait of Hormuz.

The passage is a key choke point for deliveries from. Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, providing 11.7% of Europe's. and 24.4% of Asia's LNG imports, according to analysis company. Rystad Energy.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards seized a container ship in the. strait on April 13 days after Tehran swore to retaliate for a. believed Israeli strike on its consulate in Damascus on April. 1. Iran had stated it could close the important shipping route.

A broader dispute affecting trade circulations through the Strait of. Hormuz might lead to 82.4 million tonnes or 112 billion cubic. metres of LNG being eliminated from the global, senior Rystad. expert Lu Ming Pang stated in a note.

In the unlikely occasion this occurs, prices might surpass. $ 100 per mmBtu in a currently tight market caused by the continuous. Russia-Ukraine dispute, Pang said, up from present levels. equating to just listed below $11/million British thermal units. ( mmBtu).

European prices last traded at an equivalent of $100/mmBtu. in Aug. 2022 during the European energy crisis following. Russia's intrusion of Ukraine.

In the British market, the day-ahead cost fell. by 4.75 cent to 79.00 pence per therm, while the intraday. contract was down 2.75 pence at 79.75 p/therm.

In Norway, an outage at the essential Nyhamna processing plant. ended, and while other blackouts continue to control circulations on. Wednesday, they should enhance on Thursday, LSEG expert Tomasz. Marcin Kowalski said.

On the other hand, Europe still has high filling levels at its. storages and carbon prices are also sharply down, traders said.

In the European carbon market, the benchmark agreement. plunged 3.77 euros to 69.85 euros per metric ton.
