EUROPE GAS-Prices edge lower as warmer temperature levels suppress need

LONDON, April 2 - Dutch and British wholesale gas prices edged down on Tuesday morning, as warmer temperature levels and strong eco-friendly power output curbed demand for gas.

The benchmark front-month contract at the Dutch TTF center edged down by 0.50 euro to 26.85 euros per megawatt hour ( MWh) by 0900 GMT, LSEG data showed.

The Dutch day-ahead contract fell by 0.62 euro to 26.88 euros/MWh.

In Britain, the day-ahead contract fell by 1.5 cent to 65.50 pence/therm, while the within-day agreement was down by 1.55 p at 65.45 p/therm.

Analysts at LSEG said temperatures in Britain are forecast to increase by 0.5-2.5 degrees Celsius for the remainder of the week compared with expectations made in recently's projection, cutting demand for gas for heating.

Similarly, higher wind speed forecasts got rid of the requirement for some gas-fired power generation, LSEG expert Yuriy Onyshkiv said in an everyday research study note.

British peak wind output is anticipated at 7 gigawatts (GW) on Tuesday and is anticipated to rise to 11.1 GW on Wednesday, Elexon information revealed.

On the other hand, experts at consultancy Auxilione stated weaker need might assist restrict the impact of lower melted natural gas (LNG) exports from the United States.

That (weaker demand) may assist balance out the low volume of LNG expected to arrive in the weeks ahead as Freeport LNG continues to extend part of its blackout which has dented its output level, Auxilione said in a day-to-day research study note.

Freeport LNG, the second-largest U.S. LNG exporter, stated last month its exports would likely stay lower till the end of May while it performs maintenance work.

In the European carbon market, the benchmark agreement was down 2.74 euro at 59.06 euros a metric ton.
