Gold remains steady as Fed minutes are in focus

Investors are awaiting the minutes of the U.S. The Federal Reserve's meeting in July will provide new clues about its outlook for monetary policy.

Spot gold remained unchanged at $4,337.59 an ounce as of 0558 GMT, after dropping nearly 2% Tuesday due to higher Treasury rates, while U.S. Gold Futures fell 0.7% to $4391.20.

U.S. yields have backed off their earlier highs after a global bond sale saw long-term borrowing rates in major economies reach the highest levels in decades.

Kelvin Wong is a senior analyst at OANDA. He said that the reduced expectations of Federal Reserve interest rates increases and growing fiscal budget concerns were positive factors for gold.

The Federal Open Market Committee will release the minutes of its July meeting at 1800 GMT.

According to the CME FedWatch Tool, traders are pricing in 64% of a Fed hold and 36% of a rate increase next month. After a string of weak U.S. data, bets on a rate hike have decreased.

Gold's opportunity cost is reduced by lower interest rates.

Lukman Otunuga is the head of FXTM's market research. He said that a sustained break above $4390 would open up gold to $4505. A?break below $ 4,300 would expose $4200 and $4150.

The geopolitical front saw U.S. president Donald Trump say on?Tuesday there were no talks with Iran, and that the Strait?of Hormuz?was still open. This was in contrast to Iran's claim that the crucial waterway remained closed for shipping.

The oil price has risen for the fourth consecutive session.

Spot silver fell 1%, to $62.68 an ounce. Platinum?edged upwards 0.1%, to $1.714.08, and palladium dropped 0.5%, to $1.283.74.

TD Securities stated that silver and platinum metals would 'benefit from a favorable macroeconomic background?in 2027. A weaker U.S. Dollar, a lower carry cost and a lowering of inflation risks are likely to have a greater impact on the price than gold.
