Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline to start with Mauritania, Senegal - Minister

A pipeline that is prepared to link West African gas manufacturers Mauritania and Senegal to Morocco, would be the first stage in the bigger MoroccoNigeria gas connection, energy minister Leila Benali said on Monday.

Morocco and Nigeria accepted develop the pipeline in 2016 with the goal of promoting local integration and enhancing energy security, while using African gas an export route to Europe.

The final investment decision on the pipeline is anticipated next year, the head of Morocco's hydrocarbons firm ONHYM stated earlier this month.

The job, backed by the Economic Neighborhood of West African States (ECOWAS), is expected to cost $25 billion and have a capability of 30 billion cubic meters each year, to be finished in 3 stages as it connects to existing infrastructure.

The very first phase will be Senegal, Mauritania and Morocco, Benali told members of parliament.
