Ukraine not opposed to Qatar negotiating energy security, Kyiv says

Ukraine would not be opposed if Qatar or any other country were to work out an arrangement on energy security by means of different talks with Ukraine and Russia, a. leading Ukrainian governmental official said in a telecasted. interview launched on Monday.

But Andriy Yermak, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's chief of. staff, said there was no such agreement in location.

We held thematic conferences - the very first on energy. security, co-organised by Qatar, Yermak stated.

After that, we stated that if Qatar or another nation is. prepared to implement these contracts (reached at the conference). through handle Ukraine separately and with Russia. individually, please do so.

Yermak did not define which contracts might be in. question, however stated no contract had actually been reached yet and that. Kyiv was not negotiating straight with Moscow, which began its. full-blown invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

The Ukrainian governmental office stated in late August that. about 40 nations had actually participated in an online conference. organised by Qatar which the primary topic was enhancing the. security of the Ukrainian energy system versus Russian strikes.

The online conference occurred on Aug. 22, not long after. Ukrainian forces went into Russia's Kursk region in early August.

Since March, Russia has carried out about 10 big rocket. attacks on the Ukrainian energy system, causing Ukraine to lose. almost half of its generating capacity.

Securing energy infrastructure facilities, their quick. repair and advancement is the only method to avoid the. deepening of the crisis, Yermak stated in August.

The Financial Times reported in October that Ukraine and. Russia were in the early phases of settlements about. potentially halting airstrikes on each other's energy. facilities.

The talks, the sources informed the FT, had actually been thwarted by. Kyiv's forces introducing an attack into Russia's Kursk area. that borders Ukraine.

The Kremlin and a Ukrainian energy source dismissed that. report.
