Prudential's profit in 2024 will rise on the strength of Asia-African growth and more agents

Prudential PLC reported a higher adjusted operating profit (before tax) for fiscal 2024, Thursday. The Asia-focused insurer was able to benefit from the strong performance of its business segments across Asia and Africa.

The London-Hong Kong dual listed company has also seen an increase in its number of agents, which grew to 67,000 by the second half 2024 from 63,000 during the first half.

The insurer attributes the increase in earnings to improved cash flow, better management of health claims and improvements in IT infrastructure.

The company reported an adjusted operating loss before tax of 3,13 billion dollars for the twelve months ended December 31. This is an increase of 8% on a real exchange rate basis, and an increase by 11% on a constant rate of exchange basis.

Prudential reported an increase of 12% in its new business profits for bancassurance on a constant-exchange rate basis. The company also reported a new business total profit of $3.08 Billion, which is up 11% over the previous year.

The company has also announced a second cash interim dividend of 16.29cents each, with a total dividend for 2024 of 23.13cents per share. (Reporting from Adwitiya Shrivastava, Bengaluru. Editing by Vijay Kishore.)
