EU authorizes $7.4 bln in state help to boost renewable hydrogen

The EU commission said on Thursday it had approved 6.9 billion euros ($ 7.4 billion) in state aid for infrastructure tasks to enhance the supply of renewable hydrogen.

The help offered by 7 countries is expected to open an extra 5.4 billion euros in personal financial investments, with 32 companies taking part in 33 projects, the commission stated.

The projects will support the release of massive electrolysers to produce renewable hydrogen, and pipelines to transportation it.

It will also assist the advancement of large-scale hydrogen storage facilities and the building of managing terminals and port infrastructure for providers of liquid hydrogen.

This will develop the first regional facilities clusters in a number of member states and prepare the ground for future affiliations across Europe, in line with the European Hydrogen Method, European commissioner Margrethe Vestager stated.

The approval of the aid provided by France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal and Slovakia marks the third so-called 'important task of typical European interest' aimed at hydrogen.
