Orban: Russia will be'reintegrated into the world economy' if the war in Ukraine ends.

Viktor Orban, the Prime Minister of Hungary, said on Friday that Russia would be "reintegrated into" the global economy and European energy system after a peace agreement is reached and the conflict in Ukraine ends.

Orban, a close ally of Donald Trump, stated that "if the U.S. President comes and creates a peace deal, then there will be a deal. I believe Russia will be reintegrated in the world economy...the European security system, and even the European energy and economic system, which will give a big boost to the Hungarian's economy." We will gain a lot from a peace agreement.

Trump claimed that both Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed their desire for peace during separate phone conversations with him on Tuesday. He also ordered top U.S. government officials to start talks about ending the conflict in Ukraine.

Orban is a vocal critic against EU sanctions and financial and military aid to Ukraine since Russia invaded Ukraine at the beginning of 2022.

While Western Europe has made serious attempts to wean itself off Russian energy supplies, Hungary, a landlocked country, gets 80-85% its gas and most of its crude oils from Russia. (Reporting and editing by Jacqueline Wong, Alex Richardson and Krisztina than)
