Australian regulator takes legal action against Clorox over incorrect claims on 'ocean plastic' bags

The Australian competitors regulator has taken legal action versus U.S. bleach maker Clorox's local unit for wrongly claiming that a brand of its kitchen area and trash can were partly made of recycled ocean. plastic, it said on Thursday.

Clorox Australia has falsely represented that its. GLAD-branded kitchen area and garbage bags were made of 50% recycled. plastic collected from an ocean or sea, the Australian. Competition and Customer Commission (ACCC) stated in a declaration.

Rather, the bags were made of plastic gathered from. Indonesian neighborhoods based up to 50 kilometres from a. shoreline and not from the ocean or sea, the regulator stated.

We are worried that, by its alleged conduct, Clorox. deprived customers of the opportunity to make informed. buying decisions, and may have put other businesses making. real environmental claims at an unreasonable disadvantage, ACCC. Chair Gina Cass-Gottlieb stated.

While both the Clorox Australia items were withdrawn. from supply to sellers from July 2023, the regulator is. looking for a charge and an order to implement a compliance. program, to name a few, from the court.

Clorox did not right away react to a ask for. remark.
