Lyondell Houston refinery to run at 95% capacity in Q2 2024

Chemical maker Lyondell Basell Industries said its Houston crude oil refinery would operate at 95% of its capacity of 263,776 barrels each day ( bpd) in the 2nd quarter of 2024, the company said on Friday.

Lyondell prepares to run the Houston refinery near to complete usage rates until it starts a planned irreversible shutdown in the first quarter of 2025.

In the near term, we anticipate seasonally more powerful demand for fuel in the middle of increasing crude oil rates, stated Kim Foley, Lyondell's vice president for refining.

We will continue to target high operating rates till ramp-down starts in the first quarter of 2025, Foley said of the Houston refinery.

Lyondell Chief Executive Peter Vanacker said the business will make a last financial investment choice in 2025 about constructing a catalytic sophisticated plastic recycling plant in Houston that uses the company's proprietary MoReTec technology. The Houston recycling plant would be bigger than one Lyondell is building in Wesseling, Germany,

Lyondell continues to evaluate utilizing hydrotreaters at the refinery site in the plastic recycling, Vanacker said.
