Russian air strikes damage electrical system in southern Ukraine

Russian missile and drone attacks damaged Ukrainian energy centers in the Black Sea area of Odesa and the nearby city of Mykolaiv on Wednesday, maintaining pressure on the embattled power grid, officials stated.

Russia, which has targeted Ukrainian energies throughout the two-year-old war, restored its aerial attacks on Ukraine's. energy system last month with strikes that destroyed a minimum of. eight power plants and several dozen substations.

The Ukrainian grid operator said Wednesday's attacks caused. emergency situation blackouts in the southern areas of Mykolaiv and. neighbouring Kherson. The energy ministry said blackouts had. impacted over 400,000 consumers but power was later brought back for. most of them.

The air force said Russia launched 17 attack drones and. 3 rockets at Ukraine in its most current overnight attacks and. that air defences downed 14 of the drones and 2 of the. rockets.

The strikes on Odesa area targeted crucial and logistics. infrastructure, local guv Oleh Kiper said. He did not. identify the damaged energy facility. State-owned Ukrainian. Railways said two of its workers were injured in the attack.

The armed force said energy infrastructure in the southern city. of Mykolaiv was damaged and power supply was interrupted for. numerous hours. There were no casualties there, it added.
