German court declines Rosneft's obstacle to Shell's refinery stake sale

A German court on Wednesday dismissed a problem by Russian oil company Rosneft versus Shell's organized sale of a stake in Germany's. Schwedt refinery, a spokesperson for the court said.

In the problem, submitted with the greater local court in. Duesseldorf, Rosneft tried to challenge Shell's strategies to offer. its 37.5% stake in the refinery, which is bulk owned by. Rosneft, to Britain's Prax.

Rosneft had argued that under an agreement amongst Schwedt's. ownership consortium, existing investors have a right of. initially refusal which having Prax as a stakeholder in Schwedt. could jeopardise the sale of its own stake in the future.

Rosneft holds a 54.17% stake, but was removed of control by. the German government in 2022 as an outcome of Russia's invasion. of Ukraine and the subsequent severing of energy ties between. Germany and Russia.

The future of Rosneft's German assets is yet to be solved. but the German federal government said the business was actively pursuing. a sale of the properties.

A source familiar with the matter said the company was. working out a sale to Qatar, which has a long history of. investing in Germany and is the biggest single shareholder in. RWE, the nation's greatest power producer.
