Iraq 'committed' to make up for oil overproduction in 2024, ministry says

Iraq's oil ministry said on Wednesday it is totally committed to compensating for any crude oil overproduction in 2024, referencing quotes by secondary sources of overproduction by 203,000 barrels in May above levels concurred with OPEC+.

The ministry is dedicated to the production level required in the arrangement, of 4 million barrels daily, for June and the subsequent months, in addition to compensating the surplus production considering that the beginning of this year throughout the payment duration, which will run till September 2025, it stated in a declaration.

OPEC+, which groups the Company of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and allies consisting of Russia, has executed a series of output cuts considering that late 2022 to support the market.

OPEC+ on June 2 consented to extend 3.66 million bpd of cuts by a year up until the end of 2025 and extend the most recent cut of 2.2 million bpd until the end of September and after that gradually phase it out over the course of a year from October.

Ahead of that meeting, Iraq's oil minister stated on May 12 his nation was dedicated to voluntary production cuts agreed with OPEC.
