Indonesia states it will extend copper export allows for Freeport, Amman

Indonesia will extend copper concentrate export allows for Freeport Indonesia and Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara, President Joko Widodo informed press reporters on Wednesday, including that details of the extensions were still being exercised.

Both Freeport Indonesia and Amman are building copper smelters expected to start operation in June. The companies have stated the brand-new smelters would need months to ramp up capability to absorb their copper concentrate output.

The present licenses are set to end on May 31.

I expect, with the completion of the smelters, it reveals their strong desire to begin downstreaming in the country, stated Jokowi, as the president is popularly known.

Speaking of the business' strategies while referring to his policy top priority of having more mineral processing happen in Indonesia, he added that their licenses would be extended but the federal government was still calculating the information.

An Amman spokesperson stated the authorization extension would assist extension of the company's mining and growth projects.

Freeport Indonesia remains in a continuous discussion with the federal government, a company spokesperson stated, without sharing more details.

Freeport is preparing to deliver as much as 900,000 metric lots of copper concentrate, starting in June, from its Grasberg mine after positive talks with Indonesia to extend its export licence, two sources stated this week.
