Argentina raises domestic bioethanol prices, reduces biodiesel

Argentine authorities on Monday treked domestic market prices for bioethanol while decreasing those for biodiesel, as the country's official gazette set new guidelines for the fuels, which are mandatory for mixing with gasoline in the South American country.

Argentina's Energy Secretariat, a branch of the economy ministry, decreased the minimum purchase cost for biodiesel, to 938.540 pesos per metric heap (about $1,062), down from a. previous 940.334 pesos.

The cost of bioethanol, a fuel based on sugar walking cane, will be. raised to 622 pesos per liter (about 70 U.S. cents), from a. prior 584.18 pesos per liter. Corn-based bioethanol rates. rose to 570 pesos per liter (about 65 cents) from a prior. 536.983 pesos.

The new prices will use to sales performed this month. May and up until new guidelines are issued.

Argentina, which is battling sky-high inflation and skyrocketing. poverty amid its worst economic crisis in years, is a significant. international manufacturer of biofuels, particularly biodiesel, and. regularly raises costs for the domestic market.

The gazette orders ruled that payments for biodiesel need to be. made within seven calendar days of getting a billing, while. payments for both corn and sugarcane-based bioethanol need to not. go beyond one month.
