Germany's VCI sees chemicals sector 'bright areas' as lifts forecast

Germany's chemicals market association raised its annual output projection on Wednesday, highlighting 'intense spots' after a better than forecast start to 2024 due to greater need outside Europe, particularly in Asia, North America and Latin America.

The VCI lobby group, which represents around 1,900 companies in Germany's third-largest commercial sector, now anticipates production volumes consisting of pharmaceuticals to increase by 3.5%. It had formerly forecast production to stagnate at 2023 levels.

Chemicals companies have cut inventories over the past two years due to weak need, however some are seeing tentative healing indications as volumes slowly get in the U.S., Europe and China.
