Italy's Enel pushes back photovoltaic panel output goal, file shows

Enel plans to increase the production of photovoltaic panels at its factory in Sicily to 3 gigawatt (GW) capability by the end of 2025, behind previously anticipated, files released by the Italian utility showed.

The group revealed in 2022 it would expand the capacity of its photovoltaic panel factory 15-fold in order to reach an optimum production capability of 3 GW by July 2024.

At that time the group also said it would work with employees at the plant, which is dubbed 3Sun, to reach a workforce of around 1,000 people.

The 3Sun job intends to produce innovative photovoltaic panels beginning in the second half of 2024, with an anticipated production capability of as much as 3 GW - 5 million panels annually - by the end of 2025, Enel said in written answers released for its yearly shareholders conference.

The utility said in the file that it was still evaluating the possibility of discovering partners to develop the photovoltaic panel factory, without providing information.

The factory utilizes 420 workers, Enel said, including that prospective modifications in 3Sun labor force would depend on the development of the sector.
