Russian authorities claim that a drone attack in Ukraine killed one person in Rostov

Russian authorities reported on Sunday that Russian air defence units had destroyed 59 Ukrainian drones which were targeting Russia's southwest regions. One person was killed in Rostov.

The Russian Defence Ministry announced on Telegram that 29 drones were shot down overnight in the Rostov area of southern Russia. Twenty more drones were also downed in the Astrakhan area on the Caspian Sea.

According to the ministry, the rest of the drones have been shot down over Voronezh and Volgograd regions, Kursk, Saratov, and Crimea.

Yuri Slyusar said the attack resulted in the death of one person.

Slyusar stated on Telegram that "a car caught fire as a result of a drone strike." "A person was killed in the car."

Igor Babushkin said that debris from the destroyed drone fell onto a house, damaged a vehicle, but there were no injuries.

The reports could not be independently verified.

Ukraine has not yet responded. Both sides deny that civilians were targeted in the war, which began three years ago when Russia invaded Ukraine. (Reporting and editing by William Mallard in Melbourne, Lidia Kelly from Melbourne)
