Italy prepares to start sale of previous Ilva steelworks this month

Italy plans to start the sale of the Acciaierie d'Italia (ADI) steelworks this month, its market minister stated on Tuesday, following initial expressions of interest received from some worldwide players.

The ADI organization was formerly referred to as Ilva. Its primary plant in the southern city of Taranto is among the largest in Europe and is a significant employer in Italy's under-developed south.

Sale procedures are likely to start at the end of this month, Industry Minister Adolfo Urso informed reporters on the sidelines of an event in Rome.

Indian groups Vulcan Green Steel and Steel Mont, Ukraine's. Metinvest and Canada's Stelco have all visited ADI's plants in. recent weeks, according to government authorities.

Likewise in the next few hours I will consult with other. international players, Urso added.

The sale comes after the federal government this year organized. the group's factories in Italy under an unique administration. procedure, ending weeks of clashes with its then top investor. ArcelorMittal's, the world's second-largest steelmaker.

Weighed down by an increase in energy expenses and a drop in. rolled steel coil rates, ADI has run out of cash and has. built up big debts with suppliers consisting of energy group Eni. , triggering the government to use financial aid.
