TASS reports that the Russian Far East oil refinery is operating at full capacity following a fire.

The oil refinery owned by Russian oil giant Rosneft, located in Komsomolsk-on-Amur (in the Far East of the country), is now operating at full capacity following the extinguishment of a fire on the site.

According to TASS which cited a plant representative, the refinery had used its reserve capacity.

The RIA news outlet had reported earlier that the fire did not cause any casualties.

According to RIA, a representative of local emergency services stated that there was no information regarding the cause of the fire.

According to two industry sources, the fire was caused by the crude distillation unit-3. The unit had been shut down urgently. Its production capacity stands at 15,700 metric tons per day (115,000 barrels per day).

Sources claim that CDU-2 has a daily production capacity of 7,150 tonnes and has been inactive since July 2024. The sources said that the plant could put the unit back into operation.

The refinery produced 470,000 tons gasoline and 930,000 tonnes diesel last year. Reporting by Lucy Papachristou, Writing by Philippa Faletcher; Editing and Emelia Sithole Matarise.
