Ukrainian gas company reports damage caused by Russian strike during energy ceasefire

Officials said that a Russian drone attacked warehouses belonging to Ukraine's state-owned gas producer in Poltava, a central region, during a ceasefire on energy strikes. The company also said it had suffered damage.

Washington announced on Tuesday that Kyiv, Moscow and other countries had agreed to cease striking each other's power plants. However, both sides accuse each other of violating the U.S.-brokered agreement and seem to interpret it differently.

Poltava’s governor stated that drones had hit storage sites belonging to a division of Naftogaz, a company which produces gas in Ukraine. The region is a major hub of Ukrainian production, just like Kharkiv.

In a televised statement, Governor Volodymyr Kout said that there were spare parts and equipment to restore and repair wells and oil and gas processing plants.

Naftogaz, who often hides the details of attacks on their facilities for security purposes, didn't reveal that its infrastructure had been attacked in the Poltava area, but called it "an attempt by the country to undermine its energy stability".

It said that although there were no fatalities, some gas production plants were damaged.

The Kremlin announced on Friday that Russia is respecting the ceasefire agreement for the energy strike, but reserves the right to withdraw.

The Ukrainian military has said that it adheres strictly to the agreement, and denied Russian allegations that this is not so.

The Ukrainian air force claimed to have shot down 89 out of 163 Russian drones that were launched overnight. It said 51 drones failed to reach their target, probably due to electronic countermeasures.

Ukraine's General Staff said that the Russian military had targeted administrative and civilian buildings owned by oil companies and gas companies located in Poltava.

It said that "the Russian aggressor continues to cynically lie about its aspirations of peace, intentionally attacking civilian objects and putting civilians in danger."

According to local authorities, the attack caused fires on 2,500 square metres and damaged the transformer of the business. Kohut reported that damage to power lines briefly cut off power in a few Poltava districts.
