Sibanye Stillwater hold-ups launching outcomes after cyberattack

Sibanye Stillwater will release halfyear monetary outcomes on Sept. 12, two weeks behind arranged, after a cyberattack on its IT system caused minimal disruption to its global operations, the varied mining business stated on Thursday.

The Johannesburg-based rare-earth elements miner said its systems had now been mostly brought back after the cyberattack reported on July 11.

Although the cyber-attack has had restricted impact on our core operations, it caused temporary system failures which led to the implementation of back-up manual procedures on certain systems at the operations, Sibanye stated in a statement.

Although Sibanye's mining and extraction operations suffered very little disruption, its Columbus metallurgical complex at the U.S. PGM operations has actually experienced some short-term operational hold-ups, due to IT failures.

This has affected the smelting of underground concentrate and the recycling of spent autocatalysts, Sibanye said, including the built-up stockpiles were expected to be processed in due course.

Sibanye mines platinum and gold in South Africa. It also operates a palladium mine in the U.S. state of Montana and has lithium, nickel and zinc projects in Finland, France and Australia.
