China Aug copper imports are up to 16-month low

China's unwrought copper imports slid in August to a 16month low, custom-mades data revealed on Tuesday, as weaker demand for the metal suppressed inbound shipments.

Imports of unwrought copper and items were 415,000 metric heaps last month, down 12.3% from 473,330 lots a year earlier, information from the General Administration of Customs showed.

It also marked a decrease of 5.3% from July's imports.

The data includes anode, refined, alloy and semi-finished copper items.

Need of the metal used for power, building and construction and transportation sectors was struck by producing weakness in the world's second largest economy.

China's manufacturing activity sank to a six-month low in August as factory gate rates tumbled and owners struggled for orders, according to a main study.

Amid a drawn-out home crisis, analysts forecast slower development in copper demand by the world's leading customer of the metal.

For the first 8 months of the year, copper imports were up 3% at 3.62 million heaps, the information showed.

Imports of copper concentrate were 2.57 million lots for August, down 4.7% from a year earlier, customs data revealed.

Copper concentrate imports amounted to 18.64 million tons for the first 8 months, up 3.2% from a year previously.
