Kremlin: Russia has called off drone attack on Ukrainian infrastructure for energy

The Kremlin announced on Wednesday that Russia has suspended its attacks against Ukrainian energy infrastructure following a telephone call between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. It also said it had shot down drones bound for Ukraine while they were still in the air.

In a phone call with Trump, Putin agreed to temporarily cease attacking Ukrainian energy installations. However, he declined to endorse the 30-day ceasefire requested by Trump.

Ukraine accuses Russia of striking Ukraine's energy infrastructure over night.

Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson, told reporters that Russia has called off an attack on Ukrainian targets in the energy infrastructure and shot down seven drones.

Peskov stated that "they were just lining them up in combat order. Six of them were destroyed by Pantsirs (a surface to air missile system), and another was destroyed by (Russian military) aircraft."

Peskov, in turn, accused Ukraine of failing to respect the 30-day moratorium for striking each other's infrastructure energy and claimed that it had attempted to attack Russian infrastructure overnight.

Unfortunately, we have seen that Kyiv has not reciprocated. Peskov stated that there have been attempts at striking our energy infrastructure.

"We will be watching closely to see if Kyiv is heeding the commitments of the Russian President and the U.S. President to do all they can to reach a peaceful solution."

On Wednesday, the Russian military accused Ukraine of deliberately attacking an oil depot located in southern Russia to disrupt a temporary moratorium against striking each other's infrastructure.

Peskov responded that Russia would honor its promise to stop strikes against Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

Peskov said that the president had not issued any orders to the contrary. Reporting by the Moscow Bureau Editing by Andrew Osborn
