Azerbaijan's parliament approves 2025 spending plan with $1.8 billion deficit

Azerbaijan's parliament approved the energyrich nation's 2025 state spending plan on its 3rd reading on Monday, projecting a deficit of 3.1 billion manats ($ 1.8 billion).

The deficit is attributed to increasing defence expenditure driven by what officials said was a requirement to counter neighbouring Armenia's military activity.

Defence spending is predicted to grow to 5 billion manats in 2025, up from the 4.2 billion manats anticipated for 2024.

Spending plan earnings are forecast to rise to 38.4 billion manats in 2025, up from the predicted 36.4 billion manats for 2024.

Expenditure is set to increase to 41.4 billion manats, from 39.7 billion manats. The budget plan assumes a typical oil rate of $ 70 per barrel, below $75 in the existing year's budget.

GDP development is forecast at 3.5% for 2025, following an anticipated growth of 4.2% in 2024.

The federal government's spending plan profits for 2025 are approximated to total 36.6 billion manats, while expenditure is forecast at 39.7 billion manats. This would result in a deficit spending of 3.1 billion manats for the year.

Inflation is projected at 4.6% for 2025.
