Norway's Vaar Energi finds more oil near Arctic Goliat field

Norway's Vaar Energi has discovered extra oil reserves in its Countach appraisal well near the Goliat field in the Norwegian sector of the Arctic Barents Sea, the company said on Thursday.

The preliminary projected gross recoverable resources encountered in the well were in between 4 million and 25 million barrels of oil equivalent, the business, which is majority owned by Italy's Eni, stated in a statement.

This brings the overall approximated recoverable resources in the Countach discovery to in between 10 million and 55 million barrels of oil equivalent, it added.

The discovery verifies the capacity of the Goliat ridge, Vaar stated.

The company prepares extra expedition around Goliat in 2025, targeting prospects with possible recoverable resources of more than 100 million barrels.

Countach is located 13 kilometres (8 miles) northeast of the Goliat field which began stream in 2016 and has actually seen declining production in the last few years.

The potential to open significant extra resources is considerable, with the chance of being turned into high value barrels by making use of available production capability at the Goliat center, Vaar CEO Torger Roed stated in the declaration.

The company aims to drill around 20 exploration wells in the Barents Sea area over a four-year period, as part of the group's general strategy to sustain long-lasting production of 350,000-400,000 barrels of oil comparable each day.

Vaar holds a 65% stake in the licence while Equinor holds the remaining 35%.
