The auction involves BCX's very first Malaysia nature-based carbon credits generated through a domestic forestry job, and marks the expansion of its product using to include regional carbon credits in addition to international carbon credits, the bourse stated.

Offered the value of the voluntary carbon market in the country's environment agenda, the offering of the Kuamut Task carbon credits is a substantial turning point, suggesting the country's ecological management, Bursa Malaysia chief executive Muhamad Umar Swift said in a declaration.

It signals to the world that Malaysia is major about climate action and its environment aspiration.

The BCX, the world's very first Shariah-compliant carbon exchange, was released in December 2022, with the aim of increasing openness and enabling companies to buy carbon credits to offset greenhouse gas emissions. It finished its very first carbon credit auction in March in 2015.
