Energy secretary: US could operate Ukraine's power stations if they help for ceasefire

U.S. Energy Sec. Chris Wright said that the United States would be willing to take over the running of Ukrainian power plants if it was necessary to bring about a ceasefire in the war-torn nation.

According to a U.S. statement, U.S. president Donald Trump told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy that the U.S. might be able to help Ukraine run its nuclear power plants and even own them.

Zelenskiy stated that Ukraine has started talks with the U.S. regarding its possible involvement in the restoration of Europe's biggest nuclear power plant in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia Region, which has been closed since Russian troops occupied them in 2022.

Wright responded to Fox News when asked how it would work: "We have enormous technical expertise in the United States for running those plants." I don't believe that boots on the ground is necessary.

Wright said that Trump and Secretary Marco Rubio are working together to end the conflict in Ukraine.

How can we bring peace to Ukraine?" How can we stop the fighting? What will it take for both sides to lay their arms down? If it helped achieve this goal, the U.S. could run nuclear power stations in Ukraine. No problem, We can do that."

Wright had told reporters that Trump's meeting with U.S. Oil executives at the White House did not include this issue. Trevor Hunnicutt and Andrea Shalal reported; Chris Reese, Himani Sarkar and Chris Reese edited.
