Ionic Rare Earths, Australia's rare earths company, receives a grant of $16 million from the UK for a recycling plant in Belfast

Ionic Rare Earths, an Australian miner, announced on Tuesday that the British government has offered its unit a capital grant of 12 million pounds ($16.42 millions) to'support its magnet recycling plant in Belfast.

The grant will be used to fund the capital investment of the facility run by Ionic Technologies, a unit of the company.

The UK, along with many other countries, is pushing for the domestic development of essential minerals in order to reduce its reliance on foreign supply by 2035.

The?sum, subject to due diligence and conditions will be provided by the DRIVE35 funding of the 'UK government, which supports industrialization of zero emission vehicle technologies.

The development of a rare earth permanent magnet recycling facility in Belfast will support UK automotive and advanced manufacturing industries, said Ian Constance. CEO of Advanced Propulsion Centre UK is one of the funding providers for DRIVE35.

Using the long-loop technology, the recycling plant in Belfast is expected to produce up to 400 tons of high-purity magnet?rare-earth oxides each year.

Multiple parties have expressed interest in Ionic Rare Earths' 85-million-pound project.
