Britain's EnQuest posts first-half earnings on higher oil rates

Oil and gas producer EnQuest on Thursday reported an earnings for the first 6 months of 2024, assisted by greater oil prices, from a yearago loss when the UK's. windfall tax for energy companies eliminated the majority of its. profits.

The business posted a revenue after tax of $30.3 million,. for the six months ended June 30, compared to a loss of $21.2. million in 2015

It reported understood oil prices of $83.40 per barrel for the. period, compared to $75.80 in 2015.

Following a spike in energy rates in 2022, Britain imposed. an energy earnings levy on oil and gas producers which raised the. tax rate to 75%, eliminating the majority of their revenues.

The business said it was disappointed by the execution. of the ongoing EPL, after the Labour federal government last month. announced a further 3 portion point trek to the levy,. bringing the headline rate to 78%, from Nov. 1.

We are dissatisfied with the ongoing application of the. Energy Profits Levy despite operating in an environment where no. windfall conditions exist, said EnQuest CEO Amjad Bseisu in a. declaration.

The UK energy market needs a progressive tax regime that. identifies the maturity of the North Sea and re-establishes the. UK as a worldwide competitive financial investment basin, Bseisu included.

The London-listed company's gross revenue for the first-half. of 2024 stood at $233.7 million, compared with in 2015's. $ 287.1 million.
