Uganda to introduce first domestic tin processing plant next month

Uganda will commission its Tin refining plant in the southwestern area next month, a senior mining ministry official said, as part of efforts to broaden capability and add worth domestically to its minerals.

President Yoweri Museveni wishes to increase the benefits of exports to the East African country, where numerous gold refineries are running, and Chinese-backed Sunbird Resources was recently certified to mine limestone for cement production.

We are preparing to introduce our very first tin processing center, Irene Bateebe, a leading official of the energy and mineral development ministry, informed on Wednesday, including the launch would happen next month.

Woodcross Resources, a Uganda-based mining and mineral trading business, owns the plant.

They will be improving tin to over 99% in regards to its pureness, Bateebe added, without exposing the size of the financial investment. Woodcross did not right away react to a request for a comment.

On its website, Woodcross states it has a tin mining licence covering 40 square km
