Rare shipment of Argentina's medium sour Canadon petroleum discharges in Hawaii

A rare delivery of Argentina's medium sour Canadon petroleum released in Hawaii last week, ship tracking data revealed.

About 250,000 barrels of Canadon crude, which is rarely offered for export, was loaded on the ship Captain Michael late in December and headed to Par Pacific Holdings' refinery in Kapolei, Hawaii, tracking data on Kpler showed.

The parcel was co-loaded with heavy sweet Argentinian crude Escalante. Hawaii normally imports other Argentine crude oil grades such as Escalante and Medanito.

It was the very first cargo of Canadon to be exported in more than three years, according to Kpler data and Argentina's energy ministry, as the crude oil is mainly provided to the domestic market.

Canadon is an uncommon grade to be exported ... but the Kapolei refinery tends to pull in regular cargoes of Argentinian crude such as Medanito and Escalante, and Canadon has actually been co-loaded with Escalante provided its schedule, stated Kpler expert Matt Smith.
