Six dead in fire at resort construction site in South Korea's Busan

According to the fire department of Busan in South Korea, six people died in an inferno at a construction site for a hotel resort. A helicopter was used to rescue 14 people who had sought refuge on a roof.

Busan Fire & Disaster Headquarters reported that around 100 people were evacuated from the construction site. Work was being done in three buildings, spanning 12 floors above ground, and three below.

On live TV, an official from the Busan Fire Agency said that 25 people suffered light injuries. Some of these were due to smoke inhalation.

The fire agency stated that the blaze seemed to have started in insulation material near an indoor pool area on the 1st floor of one of these buildings.

In a press release, the office of South Korea's acting president Choi Sangmok said that he had ordered all available resources to be used in order to put out the fire. (Reporting and editing by Ed Davies, Hyunsu Yaim, Joyce Lee)
