Russian prosecutors try to recover assets from former Gazprom manager

A court spokeswoman announced on Friday that Russian prosecutors had filed a lawsuit to recover assets of former Gazprom Manager Kirill Seleznyov.

Interfax reported that Seleznyov, along with two other defendants, were suspected of diverting 150 billion roubles (about $1.75 billion) from Gazprom.

Darya Lebedeva posted on Telegram, that the Frunzensky Court in St. Petersburg had registered the lawsuit but did not specify the value.

Seleznyov has been a close ally to Alexei Miller, the CEO of Gazprom for many years. He served as a member of its management board for over 15 years. Seleznyov is the head of RusChemAlliance - a company that is half owned by Gazprom. RusChemAlliance refused to comment on the matter when contacted by.

Lebedeva was quoted by RBC as saying that the authorities wanted to return shares and stakes they believed defendants acquired "in an unsavory way".

RusChemAlliance has been embroiled in litigation over a major gas project near the Baltic Sea with Western companies. Seleznyov joined the company in 2019 after leaving Gazprom.
