Uganda says it remains in talk with import all its oil through Tanzania

Uganda is working out with Tanzania to import all of its oil items through Dar es Salaam, which would mean an end to imports through Kenya's Mombasa port, Uganda's energy minister informed on Thursday.

Uganda has actually been dissatisfied with the longstanding system under which Ugandan fuel business purchase 90% of their supplies through affiliated firms in Kenya. President Yoweri Museveni has grumbled this exposes his country to provide disturbances and high pump costs.

In reaction, Uganda revealed in November it would turn over unique rights for supply of all petroleum products to a system of global energy trader Vitol. Uganda imported $1.6 billion worth of petroleum products in 2022, primarily stemming from the Gulf.

The federal government prepared for imports to still get here through Kenya, however Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa stated the Kenyan federal government declined to grant the needed licence.

We are negotiating with the Tanzanian federal government. The technical groups are talking, and I will be meeting Her Excellency, the president on that, Nankabirwa stated.

We wish to find a path that will keep us safe in terms of petroleum materials.

Kenya's Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority and Tanzanian officials did not instantly respond to an ask for comment. Tanzanian federal government authorities did not right away react to requests for remark.
