Slovakia thinks about building another 1.2 GW nuclear power unit, PM Fico says

The Slovak federal government is thinking about developing another nuclear power unit with capacity of approximately 1.2 gigawatts (GW), and could reach a decision at a conference on Wednesday, Prime Minister Robert Fico stated on Monday.

The choice would be a basis for concrete actions to prepare the project, he said.

Slovakia has long been a supporter of nuclear and hydro energy. Utility Slovenske Elektrarne, which is 33% state-owned, in 2015 completed the 472-megawatt Unit 3 at the Mochovce plant and is now finishing another at the exact same website, a job that has its roots in the communist age.
