The Information reports that OpenAI and Meta are in discussions with Reliance about AI partnerships.

The Information, a technology news website, reported that OpenAI and Meta Platforms held separate talks with India's Reliance Industries about potential partnerships to increase their artificial intelligence offerings within the country.

According to The Information which cited sources with knowledge of the subject, a possible relationship was being discussed between Reliance Jio, OpenAI and ChatGPT to distribute ChatGPT.

According to the report it was also revealed that OpenAI discussed price reductions with its employees. The price of the ChatGPT subscription could be reduced to a few dollars per month instead of the usual $20. It is unclear if OpenAI had discussed this idea with Reliance.

The Information reported that Reliance had discussed selling OpenAI's model to its enterprise customers via an API (application programming interface), and also talked about hosting and running OpenAI locally so that data from local customers could be kept in India.

Reliance, in particular, has discussed the running of the Meta and OpenAI model in a three gigawatt datacenter that it plans to build. It has claimed this is the largest datacenter in the world. This data center will be located in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

Meta has declined to comment on The Information Report. OpenAI and Reliance didn't immediately respond to comments on the report.

Reliance Industries, one of India's largest conglomerates, is involved in oil and gas exploration, petrochemicals and refining. It also engages in retail, telecommunications and green energy.
