Nicolai Tanen is re-elected as CEO of Norway's wealth funds

The central bank announced on Tuesday that Nicolai Tangen had been appointed for a second term to lead Norges Bank Investment Management's massive sovereign wealth fund.

Tangen, who was appointed CEO of the sovereign fund in September 2020, for a period of five years, announced in November that he would be seeking a second term, as he believed the job wasn't done.

Ida Wolden Bache, Governor of the Central Bank said that "Nicolai Tangen has extensive experience and in-depth knowledge in international investment management."

The world's largest sovereign wealth fund of $1.8 trillion invests in foreign bonds, shares, property, and renewable energy projects.

"Creating wealth for Norwegians is the most rewarding work I've ever done." Tangen stated that he was grateful for the renewed trust, and looked forward to working with his talented colleagues for five more years.

The fund has stakes in 9,000 companies around the world, which is equivalent to 1.5% all listed shares. It has also set the pace in many areas of corporate governance, environmental and social issues.

Tangen, the wealthy former hedge-fund manager, is more outspoken than his predecessors. He hosts corporate leaders, such as Tesla CEO Elon Musk, on a podcast.
