Kuwait forms brand-new government headed by Ahmad Abdullah Al-Sabah

Kuwait formed a brand-new cabinet headed by Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah AlSabah, according to a royal decree released Sunday.

Emad al al-Atiqi, Anwar Ali al-Mudhaf and Abdullah Ali al-Yahya kept their posts as oil, financing and foreign ministers respectively, according to the decree from the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Sheikh Ahmad is the emir's nephew and was previously appointed prime minister in April.

The Prime Minister and the ministers should execute this decree, stated Sheikh Mishal in the decree.

The new government comes soon after the emir dissolved parliament indefinitely on Friday, after an extended period of quarreling in between the federal government and the chosen parliament.

The emir likewise suspended some articles of the constitution, consisting of those specifying that a new parliament needs to be elected within 2 months of a dissolution and that laws must be authorized by the parliament and the emir.

The powers of the National Assembly would be assumed by the emir and the country's cabinet, state television reported at the time.

The changes provide Emir Al-Sabah complete control over brand-new legislation.

The articles would be suspended for a period not going beyond 4 years, throughout which all aspects of the democratic process would be studied, according to the Emir's order on Friday.

It was the 2nd time that the Emir has liquified the parliament this year.

The legislature in Kuwait wields more influence than similar bodies in other Gulf monarchies, and political deadlock has for decades caused cabinet reshuffles and dissolutions of parliament.
