A minimum of 28 dead in Iran coal mine blast, state TV says

A gas surge in a coal mine in Iran's South Khorasan Province killed a minimum of 28 individuals and hurt 17, state television said on Sunday, with 24 individuals still missing.

The accident was triggered by a methane gas explosion in two blocks of the mine run by the Madanjoo business, state television stated. There were 69 employees in the blocks at the time of the explosion, it said.

Seventeen injured individuals were carried to the health center and 24 people are still missing out on, state television stated pointing out the head of Iran's Red Crescent.

The surge took place at 9 p.m. (1730 GMT) on Saturday, state media said.

President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed acknowledgements to the victims' households. I spoke to ministers and we will do our best to follow up, Pezeshkian stated in telecasted remarks.
