Toyota Industries deals with crackdown for engine emissions unfaithful - Nikkei

Japan's transportation ministry is preparing action versus a Toyota Motor Corp affiliate for cheating engine emissions tests, including perhaps withdrawing accreditation for some engine types, Nikkei reported on Monday.

The ministry will purchase Toyota Industries, the world's biggest manufacturer of forklift trucks, to take steps to prevent a reoccurrence of the misbehavior, the newspaper reported, citing people acquainted with the matter.

Toyota did not right away respond to a ' request for comments.

Toyota Industries, which also makes cars and trucks, fabrics and electronics, may lose certification for an excavator engine, the report stated.

The ministry appears to be preparing similar action over two forklift engine models, it added.

The regulator will weigh the severity of the misconduct before deciding whether to do the exact same for engines used in Land Cruiser lorries and HiAce vans, the report said.

The company reported to the ministry in January that it had participated in misconduct that consisted of tampering with efficiency test information for several forklift and vehicle engine models, Nikkei included.
